Juvéderm™ Wrinkle Reduction Therapy

The appearance of wrinkles and facial folds can be smoothed by adding structure and volume both within the deeper layers of skin and occasionally under the skin.  Generally, this is done by injecting materials into the skin to replace the loss of volume. One material that has been used worldwide for more than a decade is hyaluronic acid. Common areas that are treated include the lines around the mouth and under the sides of the nose, upper and lower lip lines, plumping up the lips, and the tear trough areas for the dark circles under the eyes.

Hyaluronic Acid is Natural...

Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar found in all living cells, and one of the major components of the dermal connective tissue matrix, along with collagen and elastin.

Hyaluronic acid retains water like a sponge, absorbing more that 1000 times its weight.  This helps to attract and maintain water, hydrating your skin and increasing its volume and density.

What is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm injectable gel is a smooth gel filler made from non-animal derived hyaluronic acid that is injected under your skin to instantly smooth out those wrinkles or folds that are being treated.  There are two formulations. Juvéderm Ultra is formulated for versatility in contouring and volumizing wrinkles and folds, or Juvéderm Ultra Plus, a robust formulation, for volumizing and correcting deeper wrinkles and folds. Skin testing is not needed prior to treatment.

What Happens during & after a treatment with Juvéderm?

Treatments are done in the office and take between 10 and 20 minutes depending on the area being treated.  Mild bruising and swelling can occur but generally only last a few days.  The treatments can be uncomfortable and, depending on the area being treated, anesthesia varies from topical anesthetics, to application of ice, or local anesthesia with lidocaine.  Bruising can be minimized by avoiding aspirin containing products and pain medicines, containing ibuprofen and naprosyn, for a few weeks before the procedure.
