Treatment for Hyperhidrosis—BOTOX®

BOTOX® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating when topical agents don’t work.  It can also be used for palms and soles as well as other areas on the body.

BOTOX treatment helps control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands.  When the sweat glands don’t receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops.  The procedure is relatively straightforward.  A small volume of BOTOX solution is injected into the affected areas through a very fine needle.  It generally takes approximately one week to take effect but can occasionally take longer.

The average response duration is six or seven months.  It gradually wears off, and if you decide not to have further treatment, there will be no lasting change in the treated areas.  Most insurance plans cover the procedure, although some make it easier than others to have the procedure performed.
