BOTOX® Cosmetic

Treatments with BOTOX® Cosmetic in Worcester and Chelmsford, MA are a simple, safe, and effective way to improve facial expression lines, such as frown lines between the eyebrows and crow's feet at the outside corner of the eyes. BOTOX provides results that were previously possible only with extensive cosmetic surgery; so it's no wonder that it has become the most popular physician-administered cosmetic procedure in the United States.

If you're interested in BOTOX in Massachusetts, take some time to chat with Dr. Seth Kates or Dr. A. David Simkin. They will get to know you and understand your goals. How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX is made with a purified form of botulinum toxin. Small amounts are injected into muscles that contract to cause expression lines, blocking nerve impulses and relaxing the specific muscles. After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract as usual, allowing normal facial expression to be unaffected.

The results are usually dramatic and appear fully within 5 to 7 days. A single injection of BOTOX can achieve improvement for as long as 3 to 6 months. The procedure is repeatable, and our Massachusetts BOTOX patients keep their skin looking smooth with regular touch-ups. They can also combine BOTOX with other cosmetic dermatology treatments such as dermal fillers, IPL or a chemical peel.

How safe are BOTOX treatments?

BOTOX injections have been used safely and effectively for more than a decade to treat many ophthalmologic and neurological disorders. Each year, many thousands of patients receive BOTOX treatments for a variety of conditions. It is becoming an increasingly popular treatment for reversing the visible signs of aging.

What is the treatment like?

Using a tiny micro-needle, a very small amount of BOTOX is injected, very precisely, into several locations in the face. No sedation or local anesthetic is required and you can resume normal activities immediately. The injections only take about 10 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effect is mild bruising or redness at the injection site. This is temporary and can be minimized with proper injection technique. When performed carefully and correctly, other side effects of BOTOX (such as weakness in unintentional muscles) should not occur. Dr. Kates is a member of the educational faculty of Allergan, the maker of BOTOX, and has the superior skill to deliver maximum wrinkle reduction without interfering with facial expressions.

Not Just for Wrinkles

In some cases, BOTOX is also used to provide relief from hyperhidrosis — excessive sweating. This condition usually begins in either childhood or adolescence. Although any site on the body can be affected, the most commonly affected areas are the palms, soles of the feet, and armpits. BOTOX is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating when topical and oral agents don't work.
