We offer two fully staffed offices serving a wide geographic area—they are Worcester Dermatology Associates and Chelmsford Dermatology. Regardless of which location you choose, you can be sure that our highly qualified and dedicated staffs will always provide the best care and advice for your particular needs.
The Staff at Worcester Dermatology Associates
Dr. Seth Kates began his medical education as a biochemistry major at Haverford College where he received his Bachelor of Science degree. While attending medical school at the University of Pennsylvania he fell in love with the field of dermatology and had the privilege of working in a distinguished dermatology lab there. After completing his internship at Dartmouth, he returned to the University of Pennsylvania for his residency in the Department of Dermatology.
Dr. Kates began his professional career at the Fallon Clinic where he eventually served as Chairman of the Department of Dermatology. He later joined Chelmsford Dermatology and then in 2000 opened Worcester Dermatology Associates, P.C.. As a private practitioner, Dr. Kates has developed a special interest in surgical and cosmetic procedures while remaining active in general and pediatric dermatology.
Dr. Kates is married to Mary Jane Rein and is the father of Gabriel, Elana, and Julian. An avid golfer, he is happy to talk about the game with any and all of his patients. In his free time he can be found golfing as often as his wife and children allow.

His responsibilities include the training of other health care providers on the correct use of fillers for facial rejuvenation. He has lectured at both local and national meetings on both fillers and facial rejuvenation.

Stefanie graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences. She then attended DeSales University where she was awarded a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
She has been a practicing Physician Assistant in dermatology since 2002 and with Worcester Dermatology Associates, P.C. since 2005. Her outside interests include running, cooking, and scrapbooking.

Blair Maerowitz is a graduate of Duke University’s Physician Assistant Program. He has practiced for 6 years in Dermatology and 1 year in Family Medicine. Prior to his work as PA, he was an acupuncturist and served the HIV+ community in the Boston area.
When not at work, you may find him wandering around in the woods near his home in Leverett, MA with his wife Rosie and children Solomon and Amelia. His hobbies include gathering wild edible mushrooms and gardening as time permits.

Kathy graduated from Bates College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then attended the physician assistant program at Northeastern University where she was awarded a Master of Health Professions.
She has been a practicing Physician Assistant since 1989 and practicing dermatology since 1996. Kathy joined Worcester Dermatology Associates, P.C. in 2000 when the practice was opened. Her outside interests include Native American Ceremony and Holistic healing.

JoAnn has been enjoying a career in Nursing since 1976. She has brought her experience in medical, surgical, pediatric and community nursing to Chelmsford and Worcester Dermatology.

- Middlesex at Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing Associates-Registered Nurse, 1985.
During the past ten years, JoAnn has worked with Dr. Seth Kates assisting with dermatological surgeries in both offices and is actively involved in coordinating the aesthetic services offered at both locations. She performs chemical peels as well as laser procedures and has been active with the Allergan Aesthetic Consultants Exchange program as well as the Facial aesthetics program.
The Staff at Chelmsford Dermatology
David Simkin, M.D. graduated from Williams College, Williamstown, Ma with honors in psychology. He received his doctorate in medicine from Tulane Medical School, New Orleans. An internship in internal medicine followed, at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, New Orleans. He then completed his residency in Dermatology at Tufts Medical Center/Boston University Medical Center, serving as chief resident in 1979-1980. He began his practice of general dermatology in Village Square, Chelmsford, Massachusetts in 1980, earning gratifying respect and support from the community.
Dr. Simkin takes special pride in solving dermatologic problems unresponsive to efforts by his colleagues, and he considers each patient “special,” whether the complaint is routine or rare.
- Has received several awards from local and regional cancer societies.
- Is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.
He is also an associate clinical professor at Boston University Medical Center, department of dermatology, and is a member of the consulting staff at Lowell General Hospital and Saints Medical Center, Lowell, Ma.

Heather graduated cum laude from UMass Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She then attended Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where she was awarded a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
She has been a practicing Physician Assistant in dermatology since 2003 and with Chelmsford Dermatology since 2004. Her outside interests include dancing and scrapbooking.
